Death itself doesn't bother me; no point being scared of something that is unavoidable. Might as well get on board with it and enjoy the time you do have, rather than spending life worrying about it. It's so easy to say this, but very difficult to actually feel and do. Some people, like me, have a harder time accepting it, but in the end I'm sure I'll be at peace with it.

Assuming you don't believe in an afterlife (which eternal nothingness seems to suggest), then there is no eternal nothingness, just an end to your life and everything that came with it, including any awareness of the situation.

The idea of eternal nothingness bothers me as a strong possibility IMO. I came into this thread planning on making a post just like this. I find it very unsettling, and I agree that the fact that it can happen earlier than it's supposed to makes it even more unsettling.

However, while I still have a functioning nervous system, I think that there are situations one could find themselves in that are much worse than death by inflicting intense physical and/or psychological pain. So, it is fair to say the way in which I meet my end could be of potential concern due to the strong possibility of physical and/or psychological pain that may accompany it, but not the final act itself. This also raises interesting questions about the ethics of Euthanasia under extreme circumstances or the pain of very old age.
